PS5 Black Friday 2026: What Sony Has Confirmed, and Is a $400 Trade-In Worth It?
The PlayStation Store sale is already live, but console discounts have not been announced. Here are the verified prices and trade-in offers to check before you buy.
Searches for PlayStation Black Friday deals have jumped this week, and for good reason: Sony has started its sale three weeks early. But if you are waiting for a cheaper PS5 console, there is an important detail. As of November 4, 2026, Sony has not announced any Black Friday discount on PS5 hardware. What is live right now is a sale on games and add-ons.
Here is what is confirmed, what last year's deal looked like, and how to judge the new trade-in offers that Sony has been sending to PS5 owners. All figures below were checked against official sources on November 4, 2026. Prices change quickly at this time of year, so always confirm the final price at checkout.
The PlayStation Store sale is live now
According to the official PlayStation Blog, PlayStation Store's Black Friday promotion started on Wednesday, November 4 and runs until Monday, November 30. Key details:
- Discounts of up to 75% on thousands of PS5, PS4 and PS VR2 games, expansions and DLC.
- New titles join the sale on November 16.
- Some discounts end early, on November 20, and are replaced with new offers.
- Discounts can differ by region, so check the Black Friday page in your country's store.
Sony highlighted this year's releases such as Marvel's Wolverine, Saros, 007 First Light and Pragmata among the discounted titles. Exact prices appear on the store's promotion page. Black Friday itself falls on Friday, November 27.
Current PS5 prices
Sony raised console prices worldwide on April 2, 2026. These are the official recommended prices now (PlayStation Blog):
| Console | US | UK | Europe |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 (disc drive) | $649.99 | £569.99 | €649.99 |
| PS5 Digital Edition | $599.99 | £519.99 | €599.99 |
| PS5 Pro | $899.99 | £789.99 | €899.99 |
| PlayStation Portal | $249.99 | £219.99 | €249.99 |
Use these numbers as your reference. A "deal" is only a deal if it beats the current price of the exact same model, not the lower price from before April.
Will PS5 consoles be discounted?
We do not know yet. Last year, Sony's Black Friday promotion started on November 21, 2025 and included $100 off PS5 consoles in selected regions. That was a 2025 offer, and Sony has not said whether it will repeat it in 2026. Supply is also tighter this year: the global shortage of memory chips has pushed up console prices and made the PS5 Pro harder to find.
Our advice: if you want a game, buy it during the sale now. If you want a console, wait for official announcements closer to November 27 unless you find a price that is clearly lower than the list price above.
The "up to $400" trade-in offer, explained
On November 2, some PS5 owners in the US received a notification from Sony with the message "Trade in your PS5 console for up to $400." The offer runs through Back Market, a marketplace for refurbished electronics, which is Sony's trade-in partner in the US (Push Square).
What you should know before you get excited:
- $400 is the maximum, not a fixed price. It is based on earlier quotes for a standard PS5 in the best condition, sold with two controllers.
- The estimate is not current. According to the notice, the figures were calculated between August 23 and September 22, 2026, so today's quote may be different (Beebom).
- Back Market pays, not Sony. You get the money by bank transfer, not as PlayStation Store credit.
- It is US only for now. No equivalent offer has been announced for the UK or Europe.
How it compares
For comparison, GameStop's US trade-in page on November 4 listed up to $275 in store credit or $192.50 in cash for a PS5 Digital Edition, with higher values for its Pro members. GameStop says its prices are valid only on the day you check. The best approach is to request a quote from several places on the same day and compare the cash value.
A trade-in only makes sense if you are upgrading or the console is gathering dust. Selling a working PS5 and buying a new one at today's prices usually costs more than it saves.
Before you trade in your console
- Back up your saves to PS Plus cloud storage or a USB drive.
- Sign out of your account and reset the console to factory settings.
- Include every cable and controller the quote assumes.
- Take photos of the console's condition before shipping it.
Bottom line
The game sale is real and running until November 30. A console discount has not been announced yet, so do not panic-buy. The trade-in offer is useful for people upgrading, especially with Grand Theft Auto VI arriving on November 19, but the final payout will likely be below $400. We will update this guide as soon as Sony announces its hardware offers.
