Houseplants for Low Light That Actually Thrive
No sunny windowsill? No problem.
Low light is the most common reason houseplants fail. Fortunately, a number of species evolved on shaded forest floors and are perfectly happy away from the window.
The reliable performers
Snake plants, ZZ plants and pothos tolerate low light and occasional neglect. Ferns and calatheas appreciate shade but need more humidity.
Watering in low light
Plants in dim spots use less water. Overwatering, not underwatering, is the usual culprit when they struggle.
