Blue Eye Samurai Season 2: Release Date, Cast and Where to Watch
Netflix has confirmed that Mizu returns on January 19, 2027, with six new episodes that move her revenge story to 17th-century London.
The wait is nearly over. Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 will premiere on January 19, 2027, a little more than three years after the first season arrived on November 3, 2023. The date was announced on November 3, 2026, together with a new trailer and first-look images (Netflix Tudum).
The date had been circulating on social media before many fans could find the official source, so we checked it. Netflix's own announcement, along with reports from Variety and Deadline, confirms January 19, 2027.
The short version
- Release date: Tuesday, January 19, 2027.
- Episodes: six, all released on the same day. That is two fewer than Season 1's eight.
- Where to watch: only on Netflix.
- What comes next: a third and final season, which Netflix plans to release in 2028.
Where to watch Blue Eye Samurai Season 2
Blue Eye Samurai is a Netflix original, so Season 2 will stream only on Netflix. It will not air on regular television or appear on other streaming services. As with other Netflix originals, it should be available in every country where Netflix operates, with no need to wait for a separate international release.
Netflix has not announced a specific release time. Its original series usually go live at midnight Pacific Time, which is 3 a.m. Eastern Time and 8 a.m. in London. If Netflix follows that pattern, many viewers outside the Americas will be able to watch during the day on January 19. We will update this article if Netflix confirms a different time.
All eight episodes of Season 1 are available on Netflix now. That gives new viewers plenty of time to catch up, and returning fans can refresh their memory of how the first season ended.
What is Season 2 about?
Season 1 followed Mizu, a mixed-race master swordswoman in Edo-period Japan who disguises herself as a man to hunt down the four white men she believes could be her father. By the end, Abijah Fowler had told her that the remaining two were in London, and she set sail to find them.
Season 2 picks up there. Netflix's official description says: "Mizu's bloody quest continues in London, where she faces new friends, old foes, and her own demons. In Japan, Akemi and Taigen navigate Edo Castle under a dangerous new Shogun, while Ringo searches for new purpose."
Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green told Tudum that the story is set in London in 1657, during an era when the city's puritanical rulers closed theatres and taverns, persecuted women as witches and even outlawed Christmas. For the first time, Mizu will be a visibly Asian woman in a society that is almost entirely white, while also facing the restrictions placed on women at the time.

Cast: who returns and who is new
Maya Erskine returns as the voice of Mizu. She is joined by Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen and Masi Oka as Ringo. New cast members include Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster as Priest Ando and Sherry Cola as Kuma (What's on Netflix).
Behind the scenes, the team is the same: Noizumi and Green write and executive produce, Jane Wu is supervising director, and the French studio Blue Spirit again handles the animation.
Why the wait was so long
Three years is a long gap for a streaming show, but Blue Eye Samurai is unusually detailed. Its style mixes hand-painted backgrounds with 3D animation and is influenced by Japanese bunraku puppet theatre. Season 1 won four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Animated Program, and all six Annie Awards it was nominated for. Building a completely new world for London took time. Netflix also confirmed in August 2026 that Season 3 will be the last, with a planned 2028 release, so the next gap should be shorter.
Is there a trailer?
Yes. Netflix released a first teaser in August 2026 and a release-date trailer on November 3. The new video recaps Season 1 before showing Mizu's arrival in London. You can watch it on the Netflix Anime YouTube channel.
What we still don't know
- The exact release time in each country. Netflix has not confirmed it.
- Episode titles and running times.
- The roles of some of the new cast members.
We will update this guide as Netflix shares more details before January 19.
