‘Black-ish’ Creator Kenya Barris Inks $100M Netflix Deal

Kenya Barris, the creator of ABC’s Black-ish and Grown-ish has signed a three-year $100 million Netflix deal, according to the NY Post. The deal will have Barris producing exclusive content for the online streaming giant.

“When my agents reached out to me about this little garage startup called Netflix, I wasn’t sure what to think,” Barris said in a statement. “I started to believe that maybe this mom-and-pop shop with only 130 million subscribers might just be something . . . so I decided to take a swing . . . a leap of faith.”

Netflix is set to release 470 originals by 2018, which will take the total count for the year to nearly 1,000. The increase in original content is expected to aid Netflix in expanding its subscriber base, which will eventually translate into higher profits.
