A former teacher at Dekaney High School in Spring, Texas is behind bars after allegedly performing a sex act on a student while he was sleep.
Manuel Gamboa, 35, allegedly invited a 17-year-old male student to his Harris County home last year after giving him free beer. Gamboa, who was a substitute teacher at Dekaney High at the time, allegedly gave the teen several beers until he became dizzy due to him not being a frequent drinker.
The teen told investigators that Gamboa was “like a mentor to him and helps him with his homework” since he didn’t know any English. Once inside the home, the teen said he told Gamboa that he didn’t feel well before he fell asleep on the living room sofa bed. When he woke up, he says Gamboa was next to him.
According to charging documents, the teen told police that he felt discomfort and minor pain while urinating.
When the teen went to use Gamboa’s phone he noticed sexually explicit videos and images, including a few of Gamboa performing oral sex on him while he was sleep.
Charging documents also stated that a sexual assault exam performed at a hospital confirmed evidence of DNA on the victim that wasn’t his.
Gamboa was arrested Wednesday and charged with improper relationship with a student and sexual assault. He is being held on $80,000 bond.
Statement released from Spring ISD:
“Immediately upon notification by Harris County of potential pending charges against Mr. Gamboa, a substitute teacher in the district, he was removed from our substitute pool. The safety of our students is our highest priority. The criminal history and references of job applicants, including those who apply to serve as substitutes, are routinely checked before they are hired.”
