Baton Rouge rapper Kevin Gates will be a free man next Wednesday after serving 9 months in prison. According to Lindsey Hess of the Illinois Department of Correction, Gates is getting parole early and “his release conditions include mandatory supervision and no possession of firearms.”
The “2 Phones” rapper served 5 months in a Florida prison for kicking a woman in the chest during a live performance. Gates claimed self-defense and cited Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. Shortly after his release, he was sentenced to serve 30 months in a Chicago prison for a weapons case.
While behind bars, Gates has managed to drop his By Any Means 2 mixtape, as well as a video for the single “What If.”
