Authorities in Memphis have arrested and charged a man with the 2010 murder of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright.
According to The Commercial Appeal, Billy Turner, 46, was indicted Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder. His arrest comes one month after police found a gun believed to be the murder weapon in a Mississippi lake, approximately 50 miles from where Wright’s body was discovered.
Wright was 34-years-old when he was killed. According to an affidavit, his ex-wife told police that he had left their suburb home in Collierville on the night of July 18, 2010, with drugs and an unspecified amount of money. After making a phone call, he was picked up in a vehicle driven by an unknown person.
Wright’s body was found 10 days later. Investigators said it was so badly decomposed that it was unclear how many times he had been shot.
Wright, a former University of Memphis standout, was drafted in 1996 by the Los Angeles Clippers. He played a total of 13 seasons for the Clippers, Hawks, Cavaliers, Kings, and Grizzlies.
