Regina Hall (Girls Trip, Best Man Holiday) has been cast in the forthcoming Shaft sequel starring Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Roundtree, Jesse T. Usher and Alexandra Shipp. According to Variety, Hall will play John Shafts’ former love interest and the younger Shaft’s (Jesse T. Usher) mother.
The new Shaft follows Usher, a nerdy FBI agent and cyber expert who launches his own investigation after his best friend dies under suspicious circumstances. The young Shaft and the older Shafts will team up but bump heads throughout the film.
Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as John Shaft (nephew of the original John Shaft from the 2000 reboot). The original Shaft, Richard Roundtree will also reprise his role as “Uncle John Shaft” for a wild family reunion.
Black-ish writer Kenya Barris will pen the script along with Alex Barnow.
Shaft is scheduled to hit theaters June 14, 2019.
