A teenager in Florida who set fire to his girlfriend house then blamed it on some “random black guy” has been charged with attempted murder.
Police say Jose Bernardo Rosas Madrigal, a senior at Auburndale High School, grew upset after learning his girlfriend had to move back in with her parents in Polk City. In response, he doused their home lighter fluid days after searching Google for “how to burn a brick house down,” and threatening to murder his girlfriend over Snapchat.
When authorities confronted Madrigal after seeing him on surveillance video at the time of the arson he reportedly said: “a black guy did it.” He later changed his story and blamed it on his brother.
Madrigal reportedly drew a heart out of flammable liquid on the fence closest to where his girlfriend’s bedroom was, according to the Daily Beast. The girl’s father, James Scott, says his residence avoided damage but parts of his yard were destroyed.
Madrigal is charged with three counts of attempted murder, first-degree arson, and possession of alcohol by a minor.
