Sean “Puffy” Combs sent waves through the internet when he announced his plans to buy the Carolina Panthers on Sunday Night. While some brushed the music mogul off as being “high or drunk,” others applauded his intentions, saying they “want in.”
Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw his name into the mix and has already begun reaching out to a handful of business leaders, venture capitalist, and sports icons to discuss an ownership group, according to Yahoo Sports.
So what does the Panther’s captain, Cam Newton, think about Diddy becoming a potential owner of the team? Newton was asked to share his thoughts on the matter during a press conference on Wednesday.
“I was just like everybody else. It was amusing,” Newton said. “Obviously he’s a person that has a lot of influence in the culture and it was just cool. I didn’t know what to expect and I still don’t know what to expect. I feel like a lot of people, you don’t know whether they are serious or are they not serious. How is it going to play out? I don’t even know how you’re going to sell something of this magnitude. So I’m just going to stay in my lane and worry about throwing touchdowns on Sunday, and let the rest handle itself.”
