The official trailer for RZA’s Love Beats Rhymes musical drama & film was released on Wednesday (Oct. 11).
The movie follows the journey of a woman named Coco (Azealia Banks) who attempts to become a rapper while taking a poetry class taught by Professor Dixon (Jill Scott). In the trailer, we see a glimpse of Coco’s rhyming skills as she goes from the studio to poetry clubs trying to find success through lyrics.
She eventually heads to an underground-style poetry slam which Common described as a place “where time stands still.”
“I’m extremely excited and vigorously inspired to be working with Azealia Banks in my new directorial installment,” RZA said in a statement. “Producer Paul Hall and I have assembled a cool and eclectic cast to surround Azealia. Our story, which is set in today’s contemporary youth culture, will bring a new voice to cinema that needs to be heard.”
Azealia Banks expressed her excitement for the project on IG yesterday writing, “This is my first film, my first leading role. I worked hard on this and am excited to see what doors open after this.”
