With the recent release of the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Microsoft XBOX Project Scorpio console, Sony is reportedly planning to compete for the biggest device in the hardware realm by releasing the PlayStation 5 in 2018.
According to Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong, who predicted the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro ahead of their release dates, Sony is reluctant to give up their dominance in the video game market as Nintendo and Microsoft have both seen a significant boost in sales, due to the release of new consoles.
However, Sony has not confirmed or released any details regarding the PS5.
With the release of Microsoft’s Scorpio, the PS4 could soon become an inferior machine from a specs perspective, having been the industry leader for some time now. Therefore, it should come to no surprise if Sony responds in some fashion with a new, more powerful machine to keep performance-hungry gamers happy.
Look for more details to come soon.
