Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska Aminah began as a professional dancer in Los Angeles, performing with some of the biggest names in music including Britney Spears and Janet Jackson. She’s appeared in commercials for Pepsi, Mazda and New Balance and recently performed as lead character “Crimson” in Cirque du Soleil’s BELIEVE.
In 2012, after completing her third world tour with Britney, Aminah launched her first collection of women’s shoes selling mostly online and a few L.A based boutiques including the iconic Fred Segal. Her first collection did quite well when Rihanna chose to wear one of her designs in the Where Have You Been music video! Aminah’s career as a dancer has taken her around the world and cultivated her eye for culture, art, design and fashion. She hopes to continue with both of her passions and is excited to see where they take her next.
What makes Aminah Abdul-Jillil’s designs unique is her excitement to “try something different”.

Thank you so much for visiting. First off, my name is Julian Gravesande & I’m from Linden, Guyana, South America. I originally began my career under the name MorukaDesigns.com & then decided to make a change because I had a different vision. It was time for the Moruka brand to evolve! I wanted a place where a woman could go & feel wonderful while finding a handbag that speaks to who she is & her personal style. Each bag I make by hand is as unique as the woman who carries it.
It all started during the Summer of 2011. I had always wanted to learn how to sew, but never made the time to actually learn. That August I was in between jobs, and well, finally had the time. My grandmother is super handy around the house. Upholstering furniture, drapery, clothing, you name it, she could do it. So it was very important to me that I learn from her.
I was playing around on the sewing machine with some scrap fabric she had when I brought up the idea of making a clutch. Originally, I loved oversized bags. At the time, clutches weren’t a major accessory. I could think of the kind of clutch I would want to own, but could never actually find one in stores. I wanted a clutch that was unique, large in size and lined with something fun. Statement making to be exact. Well my grandmother was more than happy to teach me. She even took me to a local fabric store where I picked out some fabrics, printed linings and matching zippers. It took me over 3 hours to make my very first clutch. It was definitely a learning process, but I enjoyed it.
A week after learning to sew I opened my Etsy shop with just 3 bags available. Today, I’ve done over 200 different styles. I wanted to create something that everyone could enjoy but couldn’t necessarily be found just anywhere. With every clutch handmade by me, I believe I have achieved that.
I hope that you enjoy my collection as much as I do. Make a statement and shop Love,Cortnie!
