Ultimate Hustler Joel Osteen Shuts Down Houston Megachurch Amid Flooding Crisis

Televangelist Joel Osteen has shut down doors to his 17,000-seat megachurch in Houston, despite the fact that thousands of flooded-out residents are desperately seeking shelter.

The pastor is catching flak for tweeting about his hometown but not doing anything about it.

“Jesus promises us peace that passes understanding,” Osteen wrote on Monday (Aug. 28). “That’s peace when it doesn’t make sense.”

Church officials claim the shutdown is out of Osteen’s hands and surrounding streets are flooded, however, tweets by Washington DC-based writer Charles Clymer appears to show the church isn’t damaged by flood waters at all.

A rep for Osteen’s ministry said late Monday afternoon that the church was preparing a statement.
