Joel Osteen to Open Houston Church for Flood Victims Following Backlash

Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston will finally be opening its doors to Hurricane Harvey survivors as of noon today (August 29th), according to the Huffington Post.

“Lakewood will be a value to the community in the aftermath of this storm in helping our fellow citizens rebuild their lives,” Osteen’s father-in-law Donald Iloff said in a statement to CNN.

Church officials said the 17,000-seat arena was inaccessible due to flood waters, however, photos posted by Twitter user @AlleyCat_Allie appeared to show otherwise.

Initially, Olsteen told followers on Twitter Monday to lean on their faith, writing: “Jesus promises us peace that passes understanding. “That’s peace when it doesn’t make sense.”

He later asked for flood-relief donations to his church.
