Isaiah Thomas Delivers Historic 53-Point Performance on Late Sister’s Birthday

Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas delivered a historic performance on what would have been his late sister Chyna’s 23rd birthday Tuesday night in the overtime win against the Washington Wizards.

Thomas scored 53 points (29 of them coming from behind in the 4th & OT) to will his team to a 129-119 victory, as Boston now lead the series 2-0. He is the only Celtics player in history to have a 50-point game in both the regular season and the playoffs in the same season.

Following the game, TNT asked Thomas where his intensity and performance came from, he responded, “my sister…everything I do is for her, and she’s watching over me.” Thomas later told TNT that his sister wouldn’t want him to stop playing, and that’s what drives him.

Chyna Thomas was killed in a single-vehicle accident on April 15, a day before the Celtics’ playoff opener. On Saturday, Thomas utilized a small break in the playoff schedule to fly home to Tacoma, Washington, to attend her funeral.
