Sony Pictures Animation’s untitled Spider-Man project has found its Miles Morales.
Shameik Moore, one of the breakout stars of indie “Dope” and currently seen as DJ Shaolin Fantastic in Netflix’s hip-hop drama “The Get Down,” will voice Morales, ABM has learned.
The project does not spotlight Peter Parker, but Miles Morales, the popular incarnation who was raised in Brooklyn to an African-American father and a Puerto Rican mother. Morales was introduced to the comics in 2011.
Plot details have not been revealed, but the focus is on Morales as he juggles school life and superheroics in the classic Spider-Man mold. The character was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli as part of the Ultimate Marvel imprint, which told tales set in an alternate story universe.
Marvel ended the Ultimate imprint in 2015, but Morales by then had made such an impression that he was integrated into the mainstream Marvel line.
‘Untitled Animated Spider-Man’ will hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2018.
