Nine-year old Amariyanna Copeny, who’s serving as Little Miss Flint, called out President Trump on Thursday for failing to keep his promise to address the city’s ongoing water crisis.
Speaking at the We Belong Together rally outside of the White House, the young activist pointed out Trump’s promise to “focus on helping Michigan improve Flint’s water infrastructure.”
“On the campaign trail, he promised he would fix Flint,” she said. “Unfortunately, this was one promise that he failed to keep, just like his promise to make America great again.”
One promise he has kept, according to Copeny, was the one to “build a wall.”
“He is tearing families apart with his policies on immigration, and us kids are here to tell him, ‘No more,'” she said. Copeny also contrasted Trump with his predecessor, Barack Obama.
Last year, she made headlines when she wrote Obama a letter inviting him to visit Flint to see the effects of spiking lead levels in the water. Obama replied with his own letter, saying that he would come to the city. (He did, and they shared a hug.) Copeny reminded everyone that she met Trump during the 2016 campaign.
“He was not so very nice to me at all,” she said. “He didn’t even let me ask one question.”
