The iconic 1974 blaxploitation film Foxy Brown is getting a TV reboot, starring Meagan Good as the iconic title character.
According to an exclusive Deadline report, Good will also produce the upcoming Hulu series alongside her husband, DeVon Franklin, and Tony Krantz. Empire executive producer Malcolm Spellman and Hand of God creator Ben Watkins have signed on as writers.
The TV adaptation has been billed as “modern reimagining” of the 1974 blaxploitation film, which was directed by Jack Hill. Actress Pam Grier played the original Foxy Brown, who infiltrates a mob of drug dealers to avenge her government agent boyfriend’s death. The film was praised for its depiction of a strong and fearless black woman, but was also criticized for perpetuating black stereotypes.
Good shared the news with her fans on Tuesday in an Instagram post captioned: “When I say God answers prayers […] #FaithWithoutWorksIsDead #FoxyBrown.”
A premiere date for Hulu’s Foxy Brown has yet to be announced.
