Kellogg is voluntarily recalling Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat waffles for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported but approximately 10,000 cases of that particular product are being pulled after routine tests detected the bacteria, the Food and Drug Administration reported.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. It can cause miscarriages, bloodstream infections and fatal bacterial meningitis. Anyone with a fever and stiff neck should seek medical attention right away.
The recalled product was distributed to customers and retailers in 25 states: Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Mississippi, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
