The first trailer for Hidden Figures debuted Sunday night during coverage of the Olympics.
The film centers on the real-life story of three African-American women working at NASA who helped launch astronaut John Glenn into orbit in 1962.
In the trailer, the women — Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe — are seen battling race and gender stereotypes even as they helped make history.
Hidden Figures was directed by Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) and written by Allison Schroeder, who based the script on Hidden Figures: The African American Women Mathematicians Who Helped NASA and the United States Win the Space Race.
Hidden Figures will launch into theaters on Jan. 13.
