Kraft Heinz Sued over Wood Pulp Content Found in Cheese

The Kraft Heinz Co. is violating the District of Columbia’s consumer protection law by selling grated parmesan cheese containing about 3.8 percent cellulose as “100% Grated Parmesan Cheese,” a D.C. resident says in a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court in Pittsburgh that seeks class-action status.

The lawsuit is one of several filed nationwide since a Bloomberg news report in February reported that several companies’ cheese included wood pulp as filler. Bloomberg had the cheeses tested and reported the cellulose amounts in the story.

The lawsuit is seeking damages plus an injunction that would prevent Kraft Heinz from selling the parmesan cheese in the District of Columbia
